Sofia Coppola Uses a Joanna Vargas Mask From Meghan Markle’s Facialist

I’m steeped in anticipation for Sofia Coppola’s upcoming movie, Priscilla; Priscilla Presley gave it her approval, the Elvis Presley estate is angry, and the legendary director just so happens to be the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola. As a film freak, this is my version of the Barbie movie. In a recent interview with The Strategist, Coppola named one beauty product among her favorite things: Joanna Vargas’ Exfoliating Mask. 

Of all the skincare brands in the world, it makes sense that this is the one mentioned by the 52-year-old director. Joanna Vargas is a celebrity facialist with an eponymous line; her other clients and celebrity fans include Meghan Markle and Julianne Moore. Coppola’s pick, the Exfoliating Mask, “is just like having a little beauty moment to yourself,” she said. “You feel a little more awake and refreshed after using it, like an instant facial.” 

I haven’t tried this product, but I am a long-time fan of the brand’s eye masks, which I find to be particularly powerful in blasting away dark circles. This mask, according to Coppola and dozens of five-star reviews, is similarly effective. Kaolin clay draws debris and bacteria up and out without overly stripping skin of necessary oils. There is also lactic acid, prized for being very gentle but still effective in sloughing away layers of dead skin cells. Lastly, there is a combination of kojic acid and fruit enzymes that make your complexion brighter while fading away age spots and hyperpigmentation. 

One Amazon reviewer said they use the Joanna Vargas Exfoliating mask a few times a month when their “skin isn’t looking its best.” “I use it at night and… my skin feels like velvet afterward.”
